Onybots

The GMs have deleted my ticket, unanswered for. The Onybots need to be reworked, they can't be allowed to continue like this. New players who enter for the first time the capital of either of both factions will be greeted by their scripted yells. Whispering them will return atleast 3 more scripted replies and prompt a guild invite. Most newcomers who are unaware by this will atleast be irritated. What strange first impression to be had for taking your first step into stormwind city or orgrimmar, they came thinking botting and scripting are not allowed here on octo. Asking how this can be will be met with silence, appareantly they are simply allowed by an unwritten rule to exist, yelling these asinine messages which are just guesswork. A real human interaction in world telling to be ready for an onybuff in 3 minutes is what brings this to life.

People will start to ask how this can be which will lead to drama culminating in pinning it onto a certain clique which are granted their own set of rules. It will attract bad actors who will claim that botting and scripting are not really banned on octo, if found out they will fall back to excuse their actions pointing their fingers at the onybots. Reading 'PLAYER has been banned for botting' in world is funny, but it doesn't need to be a more frequent ocassion.

I have literally never seen any pserver who allowed this kind of bot in addition being it a hidden rule. This comes of as very strange especially for what octo tries to make a name of for itself, no tolerance to botting and scripting. It is very none twow like, we didn't have those bots back on twow anyways. What for even?

If there is such a demand (not that I have seen it verifiable ingame by other player's opinions) then why not make a NPC who announces these messages, it would be the perfect middle ground. But as it stands now this is a path not in the footsteps of turtle, for me personnally and may it be a small difference, this if not reworked would be a very steep change of direction onto a pathway I'm not willing to walk.

I hope the octo devs will act on this, it's such a minor thing really 'fixable' by ignoring, but you can't hide away their ingame models standing at various locations (even up on bonfire because I keep killing them and they try to hide lmao - not only that bot the person behind the onybots even altered their scripts to counter my methods) and I never ignore anyone, my ignore list is always empty. The only time I had to resort to install an ignore addon since I eventually ran out of ignore space was on a different pserver just to block out the constant guild spam. Please think of the implications this has, appareantly some elite ballers are allowed to bot and script, what it entails, attracting vicious players from script kiddies to more advanced botters.

You should ask yourself more often if these actions you tolerate are in the spirit of twow or if you want to try something different. WE DID NOT HAVE ONYBOTS ON TWOW

Good points.

These bots appeared some time ago in Orgrimmar. I don't mind them that much, however, your reasoning is correct.
Turtle WoW and now Octo WoW should be very new-player-friendly. Ony bots aren't controversial for old players who raid but for some noobs, seeing these weird automated messages could ruin the immersion and potentially discourage them from playing more if that's the first thing they see after entering the city.

I think the other problem with these bots is that they advertize implicitly to everyone by yelling. On Turtle WoW there were similar bots though they never advertize in such aggressive way. For example, Tent bot whispered you if there were any tents in Goldshire after you typed "tents?" on world chat. They were OK because they didn't ruin the immersion for new players - they didn't even know such bot had existed and that's how it should be.
The devil is in the detail.

I am the bot creator, the bot is a community service by the community.
it is friendly, does not spam, does message in /yell once every 1 minutes updating on a status or when raid about to end so it notifies.

players love it, there are currently 1024 in-game subscribed to personal notifications (all-time-high 1061), it is getting very popular.
players can also subscribe to it ingame or via our discord, by whispering to the bots.

also added Lore friendly conversations between the bots to make it more engaging in the cities.

if you don't like it you can just ignore the bot the same way as you ignore any other player in game that you don't enjoy playing with.

i am always open to more suggestions and improvements, you can whisper them to any bot in game by "feedback <and your feedback> or on our discord directly.

PS: you are killing these bot listeners, which means you are doing a denial of service to all the subscribed players who rely on them to notify when world buff is about to drop.
this is very selfish and not a nice behavior.

That's weird because everyone in Stormwind hates them. It was fine when they were just yelling Ony updates, maybe a little annoying but pretty tame. Now they do nothing but spam chat non-stop with unfunny and uncreative "banter." No one wants AI slopbots spamming chat non-stop. No one asked for this. It adds literally zero value to the world.

What makes these games fun and vibrant are the players, not AI chatbots.
Gibom wrote: Fri Sep 25, 2026 10:35 am if you don't like it you can just ignore the bot
Except you can't because 99% of us use chat bubbles and they do not go away if you mute them, they are non-stop spamming regardless.

Also, agreed with all points made by the OP. We don't need AI slopbots for ony buff updates, players can just ask like they always have or use an addon. Let the players decide for themselves, the world should be neutral and natural, not automated to hell and back.

Remove the """""conversations"""""", this is some of the most anti-funny shit I have ever seen, they are bad. Bots were already inaccurate and annoying. It absolutely is spam.

Also if they were a "cOmMuNiTy SeRvIcE bY tHe CoMmUnItY fOr ThE cOmMuNiTy" they wouldn't be advertising for discord, guild invites, or donations upon subscription and it should be made incredibly obvious how to unsubscribe from them. It comes off as very scummy. Remove all personal incentives from the bots before even trying to play victim saying that it is a selfless service.

If you want to use subscriptions as the metric to prove they should exist I would like to see the breakdown of how many of those subscriptions come from unique level 60 accounts and how many ignore lists the bots are on. I already disliked them and your post defending them came off as so disingenuous that I also want to see them completely removed now. As it stands, they feel predatory of newer players and unnecessary for older ones.

+1 to nuke the onybots, they ruin the atmosphere and represent favoritism on bot enforcement.

Completely disingenuous and didn't acknowledge any of the points listed. Making me dislike you and your bots even more. Address the guild invites, discord links, and donations. Make the bots shut up. Add a clear unsubscription service. And most of all, make them SHUT the FUCK UP.

I personnally wasn't annoyed as a new player entering Stormwind. And i like that the bot helped me to know that there is a buff to wait in the capital city
