Chris 9706184635 The client dials the first IPv4 address alone, as 1.12.1 does (#1385)
**Problem.** `localhost` resolves to `::1` first. benilla dialled every resolved address in order, so a realmd bound only to IPv4 left a Windows login waiting about 2 s on `::1`.

**Reference.** 1.12.1 resolves the realmlist host to one IPv4 address and dials it alone (`WowConnection::ConnectToHost` `0x5b6e40`): `inet_addr` (WSOCK32 ordinal 10), else the first entry of `gethostbyname` (ordinal 52). It never dials IPv6.

**Change.** The dial takes the resolver's first IPv4 address and nothing else. A host with no IPv4 address fails as unresolved.

**Tests.** `localhost` dials `127.0.0.1`. The first IPv4 address of several is dialled. A host that resolves only to IPv6 gives no target.

Smoke: green.

Sam SungandClaude Opus 5 b42cd7ef6b Update packets: self release, mover blocks, spline facing, placement (#1324)
Five fixes to how `SMSG_UPDATE_OBJECT` is applied, each against the client's code:

- An out-of-range block never releases the active player (0x465f39–0x465f45).
- A movement block for the unit we move, the player or a possessed unit, is dropped (0x4670a5–0x4670bb).
- A create spline reads its three final-facing fields independently, in the order point, GUID, angle (0x47f0bf, 0x47f0e8, 0x47f0f9), so a server that sets two no longer breaks the packet.
- A game object is placed by its create block's position over its position fields (0x5f7046), and a re-create re-poses units only (0x46638c).
- The leave-world sweep's comment names the destroy path alone.

Byte-exact fixtures for the spline; each change has a test that fails without it.

#	crates/benilla-app/src/ui_script/sweep.rs

Absorbed into the octo fork. Our tree has no ui_script/sweep.rs (upstream added it after our last sync), and the only change to it here was a comment; the file is dropped rather than orphaned. The five packet fixes apply unchanged.

gromandClaude Opus 5 68f397af72 app+protocol: nampower's combat-log family — 35 events off one decode
Every packet this family reports was already decoded: `combat_log/`
builds its chat lines from exactly these structs. `ui_np_events.rs` is a
second consumer of that decode, not a second decoder, which is also why
its arguments cannot drift from the chat log's.

Built: `SPELL_DAMAGE_EVENT_*`, `AUTO_ATTACK_*`, the three `SPELL_HEAL_*`,
the three `SPELL_ENERGIZE_*`, `SPELL_MISS_*`, `DAMAGE_SHIELD_*`,
`ENVIRONMENTAL_DMG_*`, `SPELL_DISPEL_BY_*`, `UNIT_DIED`, the
`*_UPDATE_DURATION_SELF` pair, the thirteen `UNIT_*_GUID`/
`PLAYER_GUILD_UPDATE_GUID` rows and `UNIT_COMBAT_GUID`.

**A registration is the switch.** Upstream's README calls every
`NP_Enable*Events` CVar deprecated — "registering the event is
preferred" — and three of the eleven families have no CVar at all, so a
CVar-only reading would leave `SPELL_DAMAGE_EVENT_*` unreachable for
every addon and `SPELL_ENERGIZE_*` unreachable for all of them, since
nothing installed writes its CVar. `refresh_listeners` reads the VM's own
registration table (the same one `GetFramesRegisteredForEvent` reads), so
a family is wanted when its CVar is set OR something is listening. That
is also what keeps the cost honest: with nobody registered a damage
packet queues nothing, rather than building eight arguments for a fire
that reaches no frame.

Nine `NP_*` CVars move from stored-only to LIVE, and
`NP_EnableSpellEnergizeEvents` is registered for the first time — the
first pass took the names off `NampowerSettings`' writes rather than off
the DLL's own CVar table. The two reasons written at the auto-attack and
heal rows were both about the *cast* path, and both were answered by the
combat-log decode that was already there.

The descriptor indices the GUID-keyed family watches are written out and
then cross-checked against the two tables the tree already keeps —
`unit_rec::FIELDS` and the `FIELD_UNIT_*` constants. A hand-written
descriptor index is exactly the number that is plausibly wrong and
silently so: the event simply never fires, which no amount of play
distinguishes from "the server never sent one".

`AttackerState` gains `sub_damage_count`, which is `AUTO_ATTACK_*`'s
arg6; vmangos writes one block, but a server splitting a swing across
schools sends more.

Two test notes worth keeping: the edge tests run through the schedule,
because `run_system_once` builds a fresh system each call and the
`MessageReader` cursor restarts — a test written that way passes whatever
the system does with the second edge. And the data-gated suite held at
exactly 269, after the event gate correctly named all 35 new names.

gromandClaude Opus 5 b652c90a4b app+ui+protocol: the four measured-out names, and the unit descriptor by name
Each of these had a reason for being out. Each reason turned out to be
answerable, and two of them were simply wrong.

`GetSpellPower(school)` is **delegated to `GetSpellBonusDamage`**, which
this client already answered — one number under two mods' names, as
SuperCleveRoidMacros says itself ("Reads the same client field
nampower's GetSpellPower does"). Delegating is the only way to guarantee
they cannot drift, and the test asserts equality across all seven
schools and the off-range values rather than a literal. The earlier
"needs a descriptor band fed" was wrong: it was already fed.

`GetRaidTargets()` is the 8-slot **board**, now pushed beside the party
roster. The earlier reason was right about the scan it rejected and
wrong about the alternative: `GroupState::raid_targets` is the
reference's own table and copying it costs eight words a push. A mark
with nothing on it is absent, because a zero GUID is a string that
passes `if t[4]`.

`LearnTalentRank` is one `LearnTalent` press per missing rank, which is
what a player clicking the button does. The earlier reason — the burst
cannot be checked before it is sent — is true and is not a reason to
withhold it: the check that matters is the server's and the client has
never had another. What can be checked locally is, so a rank already
held queues nothing and one past the maximum is clamped.

`GetUnitData` is the whole descriptor, from a new raw block on
`UnitState`. The earlier reason — "a decision about which fields" — is
now a table of seventy columns under the DLL's own names, read off its
string pool in UnitFields order; `GetUnitField`'s scalar half reads the
same block, so the two cannot answer differently for one name, and a
test walks the table asserting exactly that.

**The indices are derived and the derivation is checked.** Only thirteen
`FIELD_UNIT_*` constants existed here; the rest come from 1.12's block
sizes. Those thirteen span index 22 to 147 and every one lands where the
layout puts it — thirteen independent confirmations, run as a test
rather than asserted in a comment, with two more that no columns overlap
and that nothing falls inside the aura blocks' 47..=124.

Three decisions at that mapping:

- An unstreamed column is absent, not zero. `ObjectFields::at` is
  `get_raw`'s strictness rather than `get_u32`'s absent-is-zero
convenience: `health = 0` for a unit whose health has not arrived is a
  number a caller divides by.
- `aura`/`auraApplications` come from the filtered per-unit aura list,
not the raw slots — the same place `GetUnitField` has always answered
them from. An unfiltered second answer would be a different unit by
  the same name.
- `status` and `zoneId` are left out of nampower's seven computed
columns: nothing says what `status` is a status *of*, and a zone is
only knowable for the player. The other five are filled by the caller,
  which knows them.

`SpellRecValue` is now `RecValue`: it serves both record readers, and a
second copy of the same four shapes would drift.

58 of 62 registered names. The four left are `DisenchantAll` and the
queue trio.

gromandClaude Opus 5 dc59594389 app+protocol: nampower's ten cast events, off the queue that already had them
All ten ride `ui_cast_events.rs`'s existing `CastEventFeed` rows — the
same rows `UNIT_CASTEVENT` and the cast windows are folded from — with a
new `NpCastColumns` carrying the fields nampower's shapes want and
SuperWoW's one word has no place for. One row per packet, folded once,
which is this file's own rule: an addon woken by one of these and then
asking a getter must not be able to get a contradicting answer, and a
parallel queue over the same packets is exactly how that happens.

`NP_EnableSpellStartEvents` and `NP_EnableSpellGoEvents` go from
stored-only to LIVE. Their rows said the shapes wanted
"itemId/spellType/corpseOwnerGuid columns this client does not carry";
two of those three turned out to be a Spell.dbc lookup and a guid hop
the item-cooldown path already made. `itemId` is the cast item's entry
through `item_entry` (now shared with `item_cooldown`, which had the
same two hops inline) — `SessionEvent::SpellStart` was dropping the
guid the GO always carried, so it carries it now. `spellType` is
`AttributesEx & 0x44` for a channel and the auto-repeat bit for a shot.
`channel_ms` is `SpellDuration.dbc`. The GO's two counts are the
packet's own lists, capped at 255 because the server writes both as
`u8`s. `SPELL_FAILED_SELF`'s result byte is the failing
`SMSG_CAST_RESULT`'s reason — the number 1.12 turns into a red line and
then discards, so no addon on that surface can see why a cast failed.

`corpseOwnerGuid` is the one column that really is absent, and it is
not sent at all: a trailing nil in Lua is indistinguishable from an
absent return, and upstream sends nil for every cast without a corpse
target. For the handful that have one the gap is bounded and written
down — the targets block reads the corpse guid and drops it, and the
owner is a further hop through that corpse's own CORPSE_FIELD_OWNER.

Two subtleties, both pinned by tests:

- A channel's START is queued although its wire cast time is 0, and
`UNIT_CASTEVENT`'s START is still suppressed for it. Without the row,
`SPELL_START_SELF` would never fire for Mind Flay or Blizzard — pfUI's
reader expects exactly that row and falls back to arg7 "only for true
channels like Blizzard where arg6 is 0/nil". With the word, every
cast-tracking addon on this realm would get a SuperWoW START whose
arg5 is 0, which is a cast bar told to run for no time. So the
suppression moved from the producer to the fire, and SuperWoW's word
behaves exactly as it did before the row existed.

- The `_SELF`/`_OTHER` split is by caster here and by *target* for the
aura family next door. Neither is a guess: upstream's wording for the
aura pair is "casts that land on the active player", and for this one
pfUI handles both names in a single arm and then reads arg3 to learn
the caster, which only makes sense if the name already settled it.

A gate hole closed on the way past: `AURA_CAST_ON_SELF`/`_OTHER` were
fired through one `&str` variable, and `reference_ui.rs`'s beyond-1.12
event gate reads the string literal *at the call* — so it had been blind
to that pair for as long as they had existed. Both are literals now,
with their rows, and the probe confirms it: renaming either row makes
the gate name the event.

Tests read pfUI's own `local` bindings back out rather than a list of
values in push order, as the aura-cast block beside them does. A
positional shape got backwards here fails in silence — the handler binds
arg3 to casterGuid whatever arg3 happens to be — and this family is
where that would be most expensive, since pfUI's swing timer resets off
the START and its whole debuff bookkeeping gates on the GO's two counts.

gromandClaude Opus 5 cae59cdc11 app+protocol: fire CHAT_MSG_HARDCORE, the realm's own chat type
`reference_ui`'s `UNPRODUCED` carried `CHAT_MSG_HARDCORE` as a chain
event nothing here fires: the window registered for it and benilla
routed no such message, so the realm's hardcore-death broadcasts simply
never arrived. Three of grom's addons listen for it too.

The missing piece was one number, and the realm's patched `WoW.exe` has
it in the PE section it names `.tdata`, beside the string `"HARDCORE"`
at `0xd06000`. Two detours do the whole job: `0x49f7aa`, in the chat
type-name lookup, jumps to `0xd06020`, which sets the name pointer to
that string and the type to `$0x5e`; and `0x49b193`, inside the
`CHAT_MSG_*` fire helper `0x49b0b0` whose format string this file
already cites, jumps to `0xd06040`, which tests the type against
`$0x5e` and swaps in the event-name index `0x21f`.

So wire type `0x5E` is `ChatEventKind::Hardcore`. Nothing in 1.12 claims
it — its last type is `CHAT_MSG_BATTLEGROUND_LEADER` at `0x5D` and its
`CHAT_MSG_BG_SYSTEM_*` block sits at `0x52`-`0x54` — so there is no
collision to arbitrate, and the test pins that adjacency along with the
decode, since a wrong id would look exactly like the silence it
replaces. The chain's `ChatFrame.xml` registers the event and its
`GlobalStrings.lua` has the `[Hardcore] %s: ` format, so the window
needed nothing from us but the fire; it takes the window's default
colour, as `FILTERED` does, the realm adding no `ChatTypeInfo` row.

Not covered: sending. The ruRU locale carries `SLASH_HARDCORE1 = "/h"`
and `CHAT_HARDCORE_SEND` where enUS has only the receive format, so the
send side needs its own look.

269 data-gated failures, identical to the baseline, all nine gates green.

gromandClaude Opus 5 56bdd15cfe protocol: read the realm's quest-log slots 21-25
The offsets came out of the realm's own patched `WoW.exe`, which carries
the patch in a PE section it names `.octoql` — 488 bytes used of 20 KB
at VA 0xd26000. `GetNumQuestLogEntries` (0x4df8b0, from
`reference/1.12-shapes.tsv`) begins `jmp 0xd26145`, and the routine the
detour calls at 0xd26000 is the entire contract in eight instructions:
slot against 20, 12 bytes per slot, `+0x28` for the first twenty and
`+0x10C8` for the next five, against the same `%edx`, with a `cmp $0x5`
that is the 25 the realm's Lua also declares.

Both arms index one dword array, so the step between the blocks is
`(0x10C8 - 0x28) / 4` = 1064 and slot 20 is field 198 + 1064 = 1262.
That checks out twice independently: 198 × 4 = 0x318, so `%edx` is the
field array plus 188 dwords, which is exactly `UNIT_END` — the player
block's own base, with `0x28` as slot 0 inside it; and 1262 is
`PLAYER_FIELD_COMBAT_RATING_1`, 1.12's dead twenty-field block, which is
what their `QuestLogFrame.lua` says in prose. Five slots take 15 of
those 20 fields, which is also exactly the run the detour's own
change-poll walks (`cmp $0xf`) before calling the client's
quest-log-changed path itself, those fields raising nothing.

`player_quest_log_field` holds both blocks and every caller already
iterates `0..PLAYER_QUEST_LOG_SLOTS`, so the quest log, the markers and
the probes pick the five up unchanged. The test pins each boundary and
the 1064 step against the disassembly, because every number here came
off a listing and a one-field slip reads a neighbour's counters.

Stated in the doc rather than guarded: a server that wrote real combat
ratings there would show slot 21 as a phantom quest. None does — the
block is dead in 1.12 and vmangos never writes it — and gating this
would mean asking the interface what the protocol should parse.

269 data-gated failures, identical to the baseline, all nine gates green.

gromandClaude Opus 5 aeba81ec2e creature_anim: SuperWoW's LootSparkle, the sparkle on lootable treasure
1.12 sparkles a lootable corpse and nothing else — a chest, a herb, a vein or a
quest object is found by eye. Sparkling those arrived in 2.3.0 ("interactable
game objects sparkle and display their names") and SuperWoW backports it as
`LootSparkle`, which upstream describes as "the sparkling effect on lootable
treasure". So on this install the sparkle appears on mobs and not on objects,
which is what was reported.

`arm_loot_fx` grows a GameObject arm beside its unit and corpse ones, hanging the
same "HARDCODED Loot Art" row (0x13) at the same tag, driven by the same field
edges. The three-way decision is a named predicate with a test, because a corpse
falling into the unit arm would read its CORPSE_* bytes as a live unit's, and
because the switch being off has to answer *exactly* 1.12 rather than
approximately it.

The object test has two arms, because the mod's own phrase is "lootable treasure"
and neither arm alone is that:

- `GO_DYNFLAG_LO_ACTIVATE`, the server's per-viewer bit, documented on its own
field reader as "the sparkle". But vmangos raises it through
`GameObject::ActivateToQuest`, so on a chest it means *quest* loot: an ordinary
chest, herb or vein need never carry it, and keying on it alone risks lighting
  up nothing but quest objects.
- `GAMEOBJECT_TYPE_CHEST`, which is exactly chests, herbs and mining nodes —
treasure by construction, and a type the client reads without the server's
help. Excluded when `GO_FLAG_IN_USE` or `NO_INTERACT` is set, so an emptied or
  disabled chest stops sparkling.

Both arms are a judgement about what the mod does rather than a trace of it —
there is no source and no published default — so they are written to be read and
corrected, and the predicate's own doc says which symptom indicts which arm: only
quest objects lighting up means the first is doing all the work, doors and signs
lighting up means the second is too wide.

Defaulted on: upstream publishes no default, and the sparkle is present on this
install with SuperWoW loaded, which is what "as if its own default config loaded"
means for this compat layer. `SetCVar("LootSparkle", "0")` is stock 1.12.

**Not verified in world.** The harness has no scene, so the test covers the
decision and not the rendering.

gromandClaude Opus 5 81d96af35d Everwood: the HD/OctoWoW line of benilla, imported onto upstream
This checkout had no git history at all, so this one commit carries the whole
of the Everwood work as a single import on top of chairmanpow/benilla-octo's
`main` (706cd71). The two trees have genuinely diverged — each has files the
other does not — so this is a fork point, not a catch-up.

Today's work, which is the reason a baseline exists at all:

- Booth previews no longer cast world shadows (`NO_BOOTH_SHADOW`). Portrait
characters were entering the sun's shadow cascades, so every skinned-rig
shadow specialization compiled live mid-frame; the hitch detector logged
"main thread blocked 1316 ms" beside a `compiled LIVE` warning. This was
  the Fashion/Tmog stutter.
- Per-pane dress-up: each `DressUpModel` pane assembles and stages its own
tried-on look instead of every pane mirroring the live player.
- Item template cache is append-only JSONL written on the IO pool, replacing
an 11.6 MB whole-map JSON rewrite on the main thread every 10 s.
- `WOW_SYSTEM_TIMING` rebuilt per-thread: it took 2 mutexes per system enter
and 4 per exit, costing 15 ms a frame (590 fps -> 60) and corrupting the
measurements it was taken to produce.
- The visibility-churn sweep moved to its own `WOW_FLASH_CHURN` switch, so a
frame-cost reading no longer pays 2.7 ms a frame for it.

Local state (`benilla-config/`, `logs/`, `target/`) is excluded by the
existing .gitignore; the account credential it holds is not in this commit.

chairmanpow 706cd717a3 merge: absorb samwhosung/main on top of the upstream merge
Same fork policy: upstream structure wins, local-unique re-instated.

Cargo.toml unions both measured dev-profile philosophies (codegen-units=1 +
lto=off from samwhosung, debug=line-tables-only + split-debuginfo from the
fork's disk measurements).

glue_booth.rs takes samwhosung's typed GlueScene (token/of_race/from_model_path)
and re-adds the fork's TurtleWoW races (Goblin=9, BloodElf=10) as variants;
their glue fog stays on Human's row, exactly as the fork's scene_fog fallback did.

ui script takes samwhosung's mouseover/hyperlink rework (world_mouseover,
minimap_blip, hyperlink.rs) over the fork's inline hover_link/span_at/pointer
path — the rework covers the same OnHyperlinkEnter/Leave behaviour.

game_plugins.rs keeps the fork's re-measured ceilings (466 / 5,509); mail.rs
keeps the explicit 13-tuple with a float daysLeft; MAP.md takes the superset.

chairmanpow 26d714fd1d merge: absorb upstream/main into the Turtle fork
Fork policy (docs/METHOD.md): upstream structure wins; local-unique work
re-applied on top. This commit is the upstream half of the reconciliation.

Upstream is the same program at a rewritten history (884dff77 == 4e0e89cb
tree), so the merge base was replaced to keep a real three-way diff. The
large conflicts are upstream moving first: the UI manifest (benilla.toc ->
the binary LAYER_MANIFEST/layer.toc split), the CVar table (cvars.rs ->
cvars/{mod,table}.rs, +24 video rows), the editbox flush model, the
host-side GetTime, the Options* -> BenillaOptions* rename, expanded
ui_unit.rs, and a rebuilt volumetric_light.rs.

Local-unique pieces re-instated on the upstream structure:
- OptionsFrame.xml: the 1.12 OptionsFrameSliders table restored under the
Benilla rename, with the TurtleWoW deviation note (patch-4 replaces
  OptionsFrame.lua).
- layer.toc: CharacterFrameAdapters.xml (the sixth TurtleWoW character tab).
- ui script: wipe/sizeof, BenillaGetMerchantItemStats, and the attach/mount
  teardown re-walk all survive.
- game_plugins.rs keeps UPDATE_ACTIONABLE_CEILING=5_509 (re-measure pending).

The LFT/Turtle_TransmogUI rows benilla.toc named off the player's install
now come from the chain's own FrameXML.toc via the new core loader.

Sam SungandClaude Opus 5.5 d759008172 Logout returns to character select on the same world connection (#1022)
In 1.12.1, logging out or a refused character login returns to character select on the same world connection and re-lists there (`0x5aaeb0` → `0x401ee0`, then `0x46b880` → `CMSG_CHAR_ENUM`). There's no realmd logon and no new `CMSG_AUTH_SESSION`. Enter World closes the realmd link (`0x46b70c` → `0x5b3320`), and only the glue's own re-dials reopen it.

- benilla used to drop the socket and log on again from cached credentials. Now the world session splits and rejoins on one connection, and the header cipher carries its state across.
- The realmd link closes at the pick.
- A leftover packet at character select is skipped rather than fatal.
- The write thread applies a pending writer swap before any command.
- A kept-link teardown ends the character without a "server down".

Fake-server tests pin one logon, one auth and one more enumerate. The logout smoke fails without a same-link relist.

Part 4a of the stock GlueXML (`WOW_GLUE_STOCK=1`): character select's roster.

- The select verbs run on the reference's roster (`0x4736c0`): `GetCharacterInfo` (race and class from `Name_Lang`), `SelectCharacter` with its clamp and event, the facing gate, and `GetCharacterListUpdate`. Part 3b of the stock GlueXML (`WOW_GLUE_STOCK=1`): the stock `RealmList` and `RealmWizard` run on the reference's ten realm verbs (`0x46f480`).

- The realm park is now a cancellable operation. Each dial carries the cancel generation it was asked under, so no Cancel is lost, and a status Cancel closes the logon (`0x5b3320`).
- Change Realm with the world up drops the session first (`0x46b22b`).
- The roster arm (`0x4724d0`) sets the chosen realm, or asks for the list when the roster is empty.
- An empty realm list is shown, never dialled at the world port.
- The native type sort puts PvP before RP.

Deviation lines cover the re-dial's full logon, comparator ties, a missing Region row and the native close.

Sam SungandClaude Opus 5.5 a329f19e06 Reputation lines, NPC greeting gates, and packet bytes in the trace (#976)
Player reports and the trace, in one batch.

- SetFactionInactive/SetFactionActive raise `UPDATE_FACTION`, so the list moves at once.
- NPC greetings: the latch, a dead unit, then the reaction pair with the active mover (`0x60c270`); a dead or ghost player hears none. Only a passing click re-tracks the NPC, and a window hello resets it (`0x60c3d1`).
- "You are now <rank> with <faction>." prints on first contact and rank change (`0x62c670`), in packet order, with the real gender.
- A standing packet prints its "increased by" line for the first entry only, never a hidden one (`0x4d57dd`).
- `WOW_MOVE_TRACE` carries each packet's bytes as hex; chat bodies are opt-in, and dot/bang commands and channel passwords are always redacted.

Tests cover each gate, the line order and the redaction.

Sam SungandClaude Opus 5.5 45b7914c9e The stock login screen logs in; realmd 0x0E is a success (#970)
Under `WOW_GLUE_STOCK=1` the stock login screen now logs in. Separately, realmd's 0x0E answer was refused by the native login too.

In 1.12.1 the glue manager runs the screen states (`0xb41da0`): `DefaultServerLogin` (`0x46afb0`) needs the agreements accepted and opens the status dialog; each tick re-texts it from the logon's state and result (`0x46b140`, tables `0x836b40`, `0x836b78`); the world connect re-texts it every frame (`0x46be8b`). The agreements seed from `readTOS`/`readEULA` (`0x46a400`). Realmd 0x0E is a success (`0x5b2cd4`); a proof's 0x0A changes nothing (`0x5bada2`).

The glue core verbs, the glue manager over the native login, the agreement CVars, `SimpleHTML file=`, case-insensitive loose files and a benilla Realmlist layer file are built; the protocol accepts 0x0E. A recorded `Deviation:` keeps the interface signature checks off.

Tests: fake-realmd refusals and 0x0E; stock-screen login reaching the native submit.

Sam SungandClaude Opus 5.5 63e917965d The quest log counts party members on each quest, as 1.12.1 does (#824)
The quest log never showed the `[n]` count of party members on a quest, because `IsUnitOnQuest` was a stub that always answered nil.

1.12.1 (`0x4dfe10`) checks both arguments first. It reads the row's quest id (`0x4df150`; a header or out-of-range row answers nil before the unit is resolved), resolves the token, and admits only you or one of the four party slots, by guid (`0x4e7f70`). It then needs the unit held as a player and scans the 20 `PLAYER_QUEST_LOG` ids for that quest. The answer is 1 or nil. The ids reach party members on the wire. `UNIT_QUEST_LOG_CHANGED` (`0x51bc63` → `0x51bd90`) fires once whenever any slot of a unit's window changes, so an open log recounts.

Unit snapshots now carry the window, the binding follows those steps, and the event fires. Tests cover each path and run the stock `QuestLogFrame.xml` to a `[2]` row; they fail against the stub.

Sam SungandClaude Opus 5.5 d2e357c2ec The meeting-stone query runs at every world entry, as 1.12.1 sends it (#810)
The meeting-stone status query (`CMSG 0x296`) and its text reset ran once per UI VM, and the text drop only on leaving the world. So after a cross-map worldport benilla kept the old text and never asked again.

In 1.12.1 the world-enter cascade's meeting-stone init (`0x490a14` → `0x4c9f40`) resets the text to `UNKNOWN` and sends `0x296`, right after the battlefield init, on every pass: login, every cross-map worldport and every `/reload`. The leave-world sweep `0x490a80` drops the text (`0x490b2f` → `0x4c9f80`) on a worldport, a `/reload` and leaving the world.

The enter leg now runs on the world-enter cascade after the battlefield status. The sweep is one edge, written whenever its latch is spent, and the drop reads it. Tests cover the cascade, a worldport, a reload and the schedule order; a live trace shows `0x296` after `0x2D3` and its reply at login, on `ReloadUI()` and after `.tele`.

Sam SungandClaude Opus 5.5 b49d2e5408 The out trace logs every world send, the login handshake's included (#806)
The `out` trace tag logged only what the long-lived writer sent, drained after each command. Everything the session sends before the reader and writer split never reached it: `CMSG_AUTH_SESSION`, `CMSG_CHAR_ENUM`, `CMSG_PLAYER_LOGIN`, character create and delete, the cinematic ack and logout. So a login trace could not show where `CMSG_PLAYER_LOGIN` sits against `SMSG_LOGIN_VERIFY_WORLD`, which wire-timing work needs.

The world socket has one write path, `send_packet`. It now reports each packet to an observer right after the write, and the app installs the trace there only when the `out` tag is on. The writer's sent-log and its drains are gone; the line format is unchanged.

A protocol test over the fake server checks that the handshake, a pre-split send and a writer send are all observed, in order. A live login trace now opens with `CMSG_AUTH_SESSION`, `CMSG_CHAR_ENUM` and `CMSG_PLAYER_LOGIN`.

At login benilla sent `CMSG_SET_ACTIVE_MOVER`, `CMSG_QUERY_TIME`, `MSG_QUERY_NEXT_MAIL_TIME` and `CMSG_BATTLEFIELD_STATUS` right after `CMSG_PLAYER_LOGIN`, before the server had seated the player. cmangos drops them; after a worldport or `/reload` the time and mail queries never went again.

In 1.12.1 all four follow the local player's own create (`0x5dea50`): `SetActiveMover` (`0x6006e0`), then the world-enter cascade (`0x5deb60 call 0x4908c0`), whose inits send `0x1CE`, `0x284` and `0x2D3` in that order. A cross-map worldport re-creates the player and takes the same route; `/reload` re-enters the cascade alone (`0x490168`).

The four now ride the self create, in that order, and `/reload` re-sends the three. Tests cover login, the create, a worldport, the schedule order and the reload; a live trace shows the order at login, after `.tele` and on `ReloadUI()`.

c03ca1e4be Percentage spell costs use the reference power bases (#646)
Percentage costs took their share of the max pool, so Bloodrage cost 20% of max health. The reference's basis table (`0x612c50`, reached from `GetPowerCost` `0x6e31b0`) reads the caster's fields:

| power type | basis |
|---|---|
| health | base health (`UNIT_FIELD_BASE_HEALTH`, 163) |
| mana | base mana (162) |
| rage | 1000 |
| focus, energy | 100 |
| anything else | 0 |

`cost_basis` now holds that table, and `power_cost_at` reads through it for the tooltip, the press-path gate and the action bar. The spell tooltip's rebuild inputs watch base health in place of max health, for the player and the pet. Tests pin each type's basis, and Bloodrage on real data: "337 Health" at level 60, whatever the gear.

Sam SungandClaude Opus 5.5 29c1ec6f0a party: a roster packet updates each member's online bit (#714)
A roster packet set a member's online bit only for someone new. So a member with a pet who logged off out of view kept answering `UnitExists("partypet1")` and `UnitBuff("party1", i)`, and the party pet's `UNIT_PET` fired on online flips.

The reference's list handler reseats every member through `0x4e82d0`. That keeps the saved record and sets bit 0 from the row's non-zero status byte (`0x4e8361`-`0x4e837b`; raid twin `0x4ba947`-`0x4ba960`). `UNIT_PET` fires only when the stats diff sees the pet guid move (`0x5e57e9`).

Each list now sets every known member's online bit. The `UNIT_PET` edge follows the pet guid unfiltered, and the no-object `UnitIsConnected` reads the record (`0x517dd3`).

Test: a status-only offline list clears the pet and buffs with no `UNIT_PET`, and an online list restores them.

Sam SungandClaude Opus 5.5 e071b8ded3 partypetN and raidpetN unit snapshots: the getters read the held pet or its owner's record, UNIT_PET fires with the owner's token, and the stock party pet frame shows (#644)
The first half of #448 taught the unit-token resolver `partypetN` and `raidpetN`. The per-token unit snapshot that `UnitExists`, `UnitName`, `UnitHealth` and the other getters read still pushed neither. So the stock party pet frames never showed: `PartyMemberFrame_UpdatePet` shows the pet frame on `UnitExists("partypet"..id)`, and `SHOW_PARTY_PETS` defaults to `"1"`.

In the reference:
- **`UnitExists`** (`0x515fb0`) answers 1 for a unit the client holds. It also answers 1, through the roster fallback, for a party member's pet guid cached behind the owner's online bit (`0x4e80a0`) and for a raid row's pet (`0x4bafd0`, gated on the row's online bit at `0x4bb040`), with no object at all.
- **The getters** read, in order: the live descriptor, the party or raid record (`0x496400`), then the pet record (`0x496420`). The pet record holds health `+0xdc`, max health `+0xde`, power type `+0xd8`, and power and max power `+0xe0`/`+0xe2`, the power divided as the live path does.
  - `UnitIsConnected` is 1 on any pet-record hit (`0x517dfb`).
  - `UnitLevel` and the dead and ghost predicates have no pet leg.
- **Events:** the unit-token router `0x515c50` fires each unit event once per token naming the unit, `partypet%d` and `raidpet%d` included. The stats handler `0x5e5720` fires `UNIT_PET` for the owner on the pet-guid bit.

Changes:
- `ui_party/pets.rs` pushes a snapshot per `partypetN` and `raidpetN`. It comes from the pet's store while held, else from the owner's record, and the existing transitions fire each token's `UNIT_*` events.
- `UNIT_PET` fires with the owner's token when that owner's pet guid changes. The feed's change gate now watches the members' pet stores.
- The despawn snapshot copies the pet's cached name into the member's record (`0x5f0a63`-`0x5f0a70`), so `UnitName("partypetN")` answers for a pet out of view.
- `partypet1..4` get portrait slots. A held pet bakes like `"pet"`. An unheld one that the owner's record names shows `TemporaryPortrait-Pet` (`0x525cb0`).

Tests:
- `ui_party/pets.rs` covers the held-pet and record getters, an offline owner, `UNIT_PET` off the record and off a held member's `SUMMON`, and `UNIT_HEALTH` with the pet's token.
- It also covers raid rows with an offline row's pet.
- `the_stock_party_frame_shows_and_hides_its_pet_frame` loads the default UI and checks that `PartyMemberFrame1PetFrame` shows and hides on dismiss.
- Two portrait tests cover the slots and the stand-in.

Sam SungandClaude Opus 5.5 a21fb2750a The stock video options window opens, saves, restores defaults and cancels clean: its CVars are registered, spellEffectLevel drives the particle and shard rates, and the video pairs, frame enumeration and client queries are defined (#565)
The stock video options window (`OptionsFrame`, off the player's chain) now opens, saves, restores defaults and cancels with no Lua error, as on 1.12.1.

- The CVars it reads are registered at the reference's defaults: `SmallCull` "0.04" (`0x68854a`), `shadowLevel` "1" (`0x6885bc`), `baseMip` "0" (`0x6887aa`), `DesktopGamma` "0" (`0x402d4d`), `spellEffectLevel` "2" (`0x688900`), plus `doodadAnim` and `texLodBias`, which the new getters read. `SetWorldDetail` keeps `SmallCull` in step (`0x488e56`), and the wrong comment that called the getter its only reader is gone.
- `spellEffectLevel`'s handler (`0x689510`): the value is clamped to 0-2, "Spell effect level set to %d." is printed, the particle emission scalar is set to 0.33/0.66/1.0, and the shard emitter's rate follows the level (`0x6eb95e`).
- The 21 functions #337 lists: the six video getter/setter pairs (`0x488ec0`-`0x489300`), `GetNumFrames`/`EnumerateFrames` in creation order (`0x705f00`, `0x705f60`), and the client queries, including `GetDebugStats` and `OpeningCinematic`'s empty `CMSG_OPENING_CINEMATIC` (0xf9, `0x48c8c9`).

Verified: a headless test walks the stock window's 18 boxes and 9 sliders, then Okay, Defaults and Cancel, with no error (it fails on main at `OptionsFrame.lua:146`), plus unit tests for each binding and handler; 12 mutations each fail a test. A live run opened the window, saved, restored defaults and cancelled with no Lua error. `scripts/gates.sh` green. Built on macOS; no platform seam touched.

Sam SungandClaude Opus 5.5 c6767d6a79 SendChatMessage resolves its language name against Languages.dbc, raising "Unknown language" on a miss, and the chat send carries that id, so a racial language picked in the chat menu is spoken (#164) (#498)
`SendChatMessage`'s language argument is spoken, as in 1.12.1: a racial language picked from the chat menu (`ChatFrame.lua:2404`, passed on by `ChatEdit_SendText` at `:1950-1954`) or named by an addon goes out in `CMSG_MESSAGECHAT`, where before every line went in the faction tongue.

- `0x49f1e0` starts from the speaker's default language (`0x5ec890`); when argument 3 passes `lua_isstring` (a string or a number) it is matched by name against every `Languages.dbc` row, case-insensitively (`0x49f8a0`, `SStrCmpI`), and a miss raises "Unknown language" (`0x49f2e1`). nil, an absent argument, a table or a boolean keep the default. A language the character has not learned is sent and left to the server, which drops it (vmangos `ChatHandler.cpp:175`).
- The packet builder writes the type, the language and a target for a whisper or a channel only, then the text (`0x49f6c3`-`0x49f72a`); fourteen per-type writers become one, with byte-exact goldens.
- Each new UI state is seeded with the language table.

Checked live against the local vmangos: a say, a yell, a whisper to self and a GM command round-trip through the new builder; a channel line reaches the server's channel lookup; an unknown language raises in Lua.

Sam SungandClaude Opus 5.5 1ef11b5bb6 A released player's corpse takes a resurrection: the targeting cursor, the pick and the click bind it as 1.12.1 does (#462)
With Resurrection, Redemption or Rebirth armed and nothing selected, the targeting cursor takes a released party member's corpse: it lights over the corpse in range, and a click casts on it. Before, the cursor stayed grey over a corpse and a click bound nothing.

- **The pick** (`0x480816`, `0x6e6260`). While targeting, a corpse is a candidate only under a word in `0x8600`: under `0x8000` a corpse that is not bones and passes `0x6067d0`, and under `0x200`, tried only without `0x8000`, one that is not bones and fails it. Outside targeting every corpse stays a candidate, as before.
- **The reaction gate `0x6067d0`**: the caster's faction template toward the corpse owner's race template (`ChrRaces`, as `0x5d7120` reads it), friendly at 4 and up. The faction catalog now carries each race's template, and the PvP team loader reads it from there.
- **The cursor**: `0x6e6460`'s corpse leg (`0x6e6719`-`0x6e676d`) with its range tail. `GetMinMaxRange 0x6e3480` pads a corpse like a unit, reading the caster's own reach twice (`0x6e3605`-`0x6e361e`).
- **The click**: `BindTarget`'s corpse arm (`0x6e5f89`-`0x6e6020`), the `0x8000` arm then the `0x200` arm, through the same range merge as a unit (`0x6e602c`). Out of range raises the error and keeps the cursor armed, as the unit arm already does.
- **The wire**: `CMSG_CAST_SPELL` with the corpse bit and the corpse's packed guid, which the client writes for any mask bit in `0x8a02` (`0x7e4e10`) and vmangos reads for either corpse bit (`SpellCastTargetsInfo.cpp:156-157`); `CMSG_USE_ITEM` the same, for Goblin Jumper Cables.

Checked: byte-exact goldens for both packets; unit tests for the pick filter, the cursor verdict (bones, a hostile corpse, out of range, the reach pad), the bind arms from a world click to the sent command, and the reaction gate on the shipped DBCs. Each fails with its piece undone. There is no live run: the probes cannot aim or click in the 3D world. Gates green on macOS; no platform seam touched.

Fixes #450

Sam SungandClaude Opus 5.5 7a1d799cf7 Comments and strings: the passes' leftovers, and a region's template matched as one name (#391)
The comment and string passes' last leftovers, and one lookup made to match the reference.

**Comments that stated a wrong reference fact**, now stating the right one:
- A cast failure clears the GCD, and a failed cooldown-on-event spell also drops its parked record (`0x6e73cc`).
- `SetUnit` is `0x505d70`; `0x476cb0` is the component clone it reaches.
- Interior sound follows the character, where the listener sits, not the camera.
- Template inheritance re-runs `LoadXML` on the one object against each template (`0x76985c`), and reads `name` and `id` from the instance alone (`0x769770`).
- On the ghost-to-alive edge the reference clears its corpse cache and sends nothing (`0x5ee990`, `0x491f50`).
- The name cache has no high-bit miss. An empty-name answer evicts the record in the reference (`0x55f6f0`).
- The combat-log deferred queue (`0xc4e208`) waits only on an item name. A unit name never waits.
- A flying spline's segments are paced by curve length (`0x454320`, `0x453760`), not by chord length.
- A stop within 3 yd of its stop point keeps the arrow nocked (`0x6019e4`).
- A missile's sound id is at `CMissile+0x40`.
- A nil or unresolved `AssistUnit` token is a gap against `0xb8` ERR_GENERIC_NO_TARGET, not a deviation.

**Strings:**
- Test, log and tool messages lose leftover history wording and placeholder labels.
- The extractor's scan summaries describe the current tint and sequence-clock paths.
- The smoke script's failure text carries no private numbers.

**Line continuations:** twelve log, panic and assert strings get back the `\` continuations they had lost. Each printed a run of spaces mid-message. Fixes #106.

**One lookup:** a region's `inherits=` is looked up as one verbatim name, matched case-insensitively (`0x6ee6f0`, `_strnicmp` at `0x6ee747`), as `framexml::expand` already did for frames. The gate before it split on commas and matched case-sensitively, so a texture or font string whose `inherits=` spelled its template in another case never received the template. `a_region_takes_a_mis_cased_template` fails before this change and passes after.

**Tests:** the quest tests stop loading three FrameXML files that no quest file uses.

**In game:** nothing changes for the stock UI. Log lines read as one sentence, and an addon texture that names its template in another case now gets it.

Verified with `scripts/check.sh` on the changed crates, plus the loader and quest tests with the install present.

Sam SungandClaude Opus 5.5 622f8ce525 A ghost is dead to the attack check, the action bar, the cast ladder and the cursor (#389)
A ghost could swing, got a lit action bar, a sword cursor over enemies, and an Attack button that did not refuse. benilla tested death as health 0 only, and a released ghost has health 1.

Fixes #246. Fixes #248. Fixes #250. Fixes #251.

- **One predicate** (`0x605f30`): dead or ghost is health 0 or below, or a player with the `PLAYER_FLAGS` ghost bit `0x10`. It lives on the object fields and every site uses it: the attack check (`0x612e10`), the usable walk's first check (`0x6e3dad`), summon, trade and the death screen.
- **#248:** the cast ladder refuses a dead or ghost caster with `SPELL_FAILED_CASTER_DEAD` and sends nothing, unless the spell's `Attributes` has `0x800000` (`0x6e4c49`-`0x6e4c68`); the Attack action button takes it first ("You are dead").
- **#251:** the sword cursor also needs a live, unmounted, unpacified player in control (`0x482648`-`0x4826cb`). A right-click now decides attack from the reference's CanInteract/CanAttack fork (`0x60c18c`-`0x60c247`), not from the cursor kind, so a ghost right-clicking a hostile NPC with a service flag selects it and does nothing else, instead of opening its window.

Tests: seven tests, each with a ghost at health 1; `scripts/check.sh` is green.

To see it: release spirit. The action bar stays grey; Attack Target reads "Can't attack while dead."; hovering a hostile mob shows the pointer; right-clicking a hostile vendor selects it and opens nothing.

Sam SungandClaude Opus 5.5 4dc33b4afd Comments in benilla-protocol: the second read, citations on the pinned revision and restored facts (#375)
The second read of `benilla-protocol`'s comments, the last step #41 asked for: that crate's comments were rewritten to the rule before second readers existed. Four readers compared every file's comments against their state before the rewrite and against the code as it is now.

Fixes #41.

- **Citations.** vmangos line citations are re-pointed to the pinned revision: off-by-a-few lines (`Pet.cpp`, `Guild.cpp`, `Petition.cpp`, `LootHandler.cpp`, `ChatHandler.cpp`), and paths the rewrite dropped where a bare file name is ambiguous (`Server/Packets/Spell.cpp` against `Spells/Spell.cpp`, the two `Item.cpp`, `Group.cpp` and `Chat.cpp`). The gossip-hello citation is `NPCHandler.cpp:347`.
- **Facts restored.** The move-time-skipped chain (`0x603b40` → `0x601560` → `0x61ab90`), the addon-message TAB surviving vmangos's chat sanitizer, the zone-under-attack sender, `SMSG_ADDON_INFO` answering the auth session's addon block, the officer-note permission gate, and `SMSG_ITEM_COOLDOWN` on equipping an item with an on-use spell (the old text said a proc).
- **Deviation labels.** A label now carries its reason, or goes when the behaviour is only unbuilt (the survey window, the group XP bonus, the NPC-text language garble).
- **Two examples.** `park_probe` and `login_refusal_probe` took a hard-coded local account; they now read `WOW_USER` and `WOW_PASS`.
- **Verification.** Every file strips to identical code apart from the two examples; `cargo fmt --check` is clean.

Sam SungandClaude Opus 5.5 2accb2489a Comments in benilla-app, capture, sound, net, spells and portraits: one line of fact each, no history, no record numbers (#345)
Part of #41: the fourth of five `benilla-app` pieces. This one is capture and its probes, sound, the network layer and remote movement, spells, and portraits. Their comments are rewritten to the rule in `docs/METHOD.md`, which is what the code does and the reference fact behind it, in a line. 23,383 comment lines become 9,669.

Fixes #35. Fixes #110. Fixes #111.

- **The mechanical strip.** The citations that were only a private record number go first, and each edit is shown to be a pure removal.
- **Wrong facts corrected.** The rewrite corrects the comments that stated wrong facts. Among them:
  - The probes' run blocks pointed at tooling outside this repository; each now points at `docs/CONTRIBUTING.md`, "Running it unattended". The protocol examples show placeholders for an account's password.
  - The dismount kit's name-match string is `SpiritWolf (DONOTRENAME)` (`0x8627bc`); the stun and jump-start vocals are never dispatched, and jump-end finds no kit in the shipped data.
  - The cast bar's flash and fade step once per `OnUpdate` (`CastingBarFrame.lua:132-147`); there is no 30 Hz normalisation.
  - vmangos sends the OK cast result before the GO (`Spell.cpp:3681`, `:3715`), and a creature can levitate from a script (`boss_onyxia.cpp:679`).
  - A live unit whose model is not ready has a blank portrait in the reference (`0x519fcc`); the stand-in path is for a unit with no object.
  - Docs sitting on the wrong item, removed names, and vmangos line citations checked against the pinned revision.
- **Deviation labels.** "Deviation:" now marks only a choice with a reason. An unbuilt behaviour, or one whose reference side is untraced, says so plainly.
- **Verification.** Every file strips to identical code, apart from two test literals in `net.rs` that now use placeholder account names, and `cargo fmt --check` is clean. Six second readers compared every file old against new, restored the facts the rewrite had dropped, and checked each new citation against the code, the stock files, vmangos and the reference.

Behaviour differences the rewrite surfaced are filed as their own issues (#319, #324, #329, #330 and #331 among them). String literals are untouched; they are #92.

Sam SungandClaude Opus 5.5 715d6d91c9 String literals in benilla-assets, -blp, -protocol and -srp carry no record numbers (#291)
Part of #92, for the crates whose comment pass has landed and whose literals are few: `benilla-assets`, `benilla-blp`, `benilla-protocol` and `benilla-srp`.

- Assert messages, printed labels and a probe's error text drop their private record and bug numbers and the workspace's name for the maintainer. Each keeps its fact in its own words. One assert names a client function by its address, `0x68a830`, instead of a disassembler's label for it.
- Two terrain tests named after a bug number are renamed for what they check: `the_pin_stands_one_chunk_west_of_an_impassable_band` in `benilla-formats`, and `a_body_walking_east_from_the_pin_is_stopped_at_the_wall` in `benilla-world`. Those two crates' other literals follow in their own pass.
- Every change is to string-literal text, proven with comments stripped and every literal masked, except the two renamed tests.

Sam SungandClaude Opus 5.5 f48f32e741 vmangos citations read in one revision, vmangos core 6b34a36 (#289)
Fixes #32. Every vmangos `File.cpp:N` citation in the crates whose comments have been rewritten now reads in one revision, vmangos core `6b34a36`, the one the comments are written against, a few commits from the server benilla is run against. Some citations had been taken from a newer vmangos checkout, where the lines have moved. #32's own targets came from that newer checkout too, so where this PR and #32 differ, this PR follows `6b34a36`.

- 53 citations in 31 files are re-pointed: most in benilla-protocol, a few in benilla-ui and benilla-app. Each new line was read and is the construct its comment names.
- #32's cases:
  - The root-ack kick is `MovementHandler.cpp:715-722`; three comments cited the falling deferral after it.
  - Movement is discarded before `CMSG_SET_ACTIVE_MOVER` lands at `:291-293`, through `Player::GetConfirmedMover`.
  - The released mover's parting stop is `:955-964`.
  - The mount-special echo is sent with `self` false at `:972`. Whether the sender gets its own echo depends on the server's broadcaster (`Object.cpp:2273-2280`); that is stated once, where the packet is parsed, and the opcode comment points there.
