Guys, what the hell happened?

I was playing from Russia last week when something happened—I got kicked out of the game and couldn't log back in. I later found out it was due to your security system and that I needed to verify my IP address. I followed your instructions, and after 20 minutes, I was able to log in and everything worked fine. Today—almost a week later—I decided to play again; I played for about 3–4 hours before being disconnected from the server, and I haven't been able to get back in since. I tried verifying that same IP address, but the system persistently refuses to let me into the game. My ISP assigns me a static IP address, which you can easily verify yourselves. I have always connected using only this whitelisted address. However, I started looking into why this is happening.

Then I discovered that I could connect from the US or Hong Kong, and everything works without any whitelists.

The question is: why can't I play the game using my verified account, yet I *can* play using a sketchy US or Chinese VPN? Why does it let me into the game without even requiring a whitelist?

And one more question: why is the player count so low on Saturdays? And why doesn't your protection work for shit—after all, DDoS attacks can be launched using those IP addresses?

This is so you’ll believe me when I say I can access your server without any checks. You can check my account and my connections.

Our new DDoS filtering is only partially in place and we are still working with our providers to tweak them to scrub these ever evolving attacks. We can see the filters working under load but they are scrubbing legitimate traffic as well when being attacked.
We ask for your patience as we work through this filter tweaking process so we can provide you all the game we all love without interruption for years to come.
I think this is likely what's happening to you. Legit IPs are being mistaken for DDoS, so your VPN IP passed the filter but your legit IP didn't.

Hopefully they get it worked out soon. Kinda funny that the Hong Kong IP was good to go, I'd assume most of the DDoS traffic is coming from that part of the world.

Thailand is also up and running, while undergoing DDoS protection checks.....

p.s. I tried all the European countries, and none of them would let me into the game—except for the ones I described above.

As of the time I’m writing this, the positive DDoS check is working, and no whitelists are required. So, that’s how it is, guys.

upd. It let me onto the server via the Netherlands; 148 ms ping.

upd 2. I managed to get onto the server using my usual IP address—the one I’ve been playing from all along. It looks like someone finally took some action. I’ll leave this thread up anyway; let them take a look at their screw-ups. 120 ping vs 58 last day(

My IP hasn't changed in months yet I can't connect half of the time and get randomly disconnected from the game and can't reconnect other times. After a month of this and the devs seemingly not knowing what they're doing players are giving up and just waiting for WoW Forever.
