Yeah, the point of adding the IP to the hosts files was to get around issues resolving the hostname. If the IP changes at any point you will never be able to connect again. It was a temporary fix.

Honestly, the DDoS and all the server issues that this brought is not your fault, and it would have been fine.
Several half-assed solutions didnt do anything.
Then the whole whitelist stuff started, which made people unable to play until the whitelisting actually worked, and again, a completely half-assed solution. You know your player count, and then the filter is full.
Now, its completely gone, and its back to Login - Connecting - Disconnected from server. My IP has *never* been blocked anywhere, apart from your shitty protection.

Your "we cant be taken down" security wont matter, if you have no players. I havent been long here, and im fully aware that you probably wont care, but im done with octo, and im done playing russian roulette anytime I login. Literally any other server works better then Octo currently.

Lol, logged off to update my mods and couldn't log back in because of the whitelist max, gave up my spot to someone else apparently

Completely fine for today until I logged off for like 20 minutes, then blocked and not whitelisted. It seems erratic when it decides when the same IP is good or not.

Wait so what is the method for requesting the whitelist? It's automatic? Kinda confusing

Kestrel wrote: Sun Sep 20, 2026 7:15 am The manual IP whitelist feature that we implemented as a stopgap for those being blocked from one of our protection providers has hit its limit of 500 whitelisted IP's (this limit was not documented anywhere, but is now apparent now that we have hit it and tested it). We will be moving away from using this protection once our more permanent filters are tuned more, but for now it is still necessary.

Because this list if now full, mostly from players who were not ever affected by the specific IP blocking that the list was meant to work around, we have removed the manual white list option.

Going forward we will be maintaining this white list automatically ourselves. If you find yourself stuck in the "Connected" message box after signing in, or unable to connect to certain realms, and you are not using a VPN, you may be automatically white listed by our system. This white listing does take time.

Requests for "please whitelist me" will be ignored/denied. We will update the account whitelist page to display if you're current IP is actively white listed. If you find your IP not white listed, and you believe that it should be, please do let us know and we can look into if the list is full, or if you are ineligible for the whitelist for another reason (most likely that it will not help the specific issue you are having).

Brother, at this point hosting locally behind a HW firewall would be better.
You do have the desired custom settings, no?
What makes you trust a 3rd party that consistently fails to deliver?

When the power goes out at home or the modem resets for some reason, the IP address inevitably changes. So, are we expected to manually add our IP to the whitelist every single time, or should we just sit and pray to God—"please don't let the power go out or the modem reset"—what do you think? :ugeek:

So...umm...if requests to "please whitelist me" are going to be ignored/denied...how do we let you know to look into the list to see if we are eligible or ineligible?

Also, is there a list somewhere we can look at?
