A mechanic that magically removes level 60 mob tag boosting would be great assuming no side affects.

I agree instance boosting is less intrusive for players, it also was only viable via an exploit to drop group before mobs die. Exploiting is banned in the rules the same as it was on turtle.
I think we disagree on it being an exploit. I see it as a game mechanic given it was part of turtle wow for 7 years. Exploits to me are gold duping, item duping, etc.
You think dropping group to funnel EXP was an intended mechanic by the turtle team? Then why nerf the EXP rather than just give it in full to all party members and sidestep the clunky group drop step?
Many years ago i was lvling alts on tbc then wotlk with this "mechanic". I'd say it's just exploit came from original client not Turtle one (i guess starting from classic). Hard to tell if it was intended or not.

I very much think the turtle team knew about and it decided that it would be a pain to moderate and there would be outlash (see the 16 page discussion here) and decided they had better things to do since at the end of the day it helped feed the end game raiding scene and probably brought in lots of new donations from new characters.

Perhaps that is how the conversation internally went, I would not be surprised. With our last change though enforcement is no longer an issue. Anyways this thread should stay on topic of if open world boosting should be allowed or if a mechanic should be added to reduce/invalidate it, happy to respond to more topics in the other thread about this change. https://octowow.st/forum/viewtopic.php?t=750

I'd say leave it alone and let higher level players help the lowbies.
This would not be related to this change as we are only talking about mechanics to prevent open world boosting. We are sure that there will be kinks to work out with any new mechanic but the intent of this pole is to gauge interest in a mechanic for this at all.
Understood.

I think even with open world boosting that the same problem could apply. If someone is just on the other side of the XP cutoff, they can't join a group to finish a quest they might still have.

If this is to be applied, maybe the XP cutoff should be a little higher than 10 levels or so. But I really wouldn't be in support of it regardless.

We are not talking about an EXP cutoff, just a hypothetical no issue mechanic if that makes sense. Just theoretical.

We're playing WoW Classic on a private server, I'd wager the majority are 30-40 year olds who don't really have time or the interest to level multiple characters to level 60 in the traditional way but enjoy the classic way of playing their main character, and then have some support characters. Leveling more than one character when you've already proven it with your main mostly feels like a chore.
