Public Death Appeals should include under-20s on the HC server

Greetings! While I am immensely enjoying OctoWoW as a continuation of TWoW, especially playing on the HC server, I think it would be prudent and fair to expand the HC Death appeal criteria to include those under-20 characters, at least on C'Thun. While the argument could be made that it doesn't take too long of a time to re-roll and reach level 20 itself, some of us, especially those RP-inclined, do grow attached to our characters and their specific adventures that simply cannot be recreated by rerolling; nor does everyone have the time to do so. I do want to be clear: I'm not saying this should be a blank cheque, HC is HC and we know what we signed up for. But it does feel unfair that death appeals don't encompass under-20s during this period of instability, especially on the HC server, since just reaching lvl20 feels like crossing a minefield.

My character specifically died while tanking Frostmane Hollow, due to a DDOS DC that happened Saturday evening, just half an hour or so before I made this post. It also wiped my entire group. We would greatly appreciate if it would be possible to revive our characters, considering this death was caused through no fault of our own. The character names are: Falgar the Dwarf Warrior, Lorencia the Human Mage, Diceyreilly the Human Rogue, Steffagy the Night Elf Druid and our amazing healer, Sjorkal the Dwarf Priest. Unfortunately, Sjorkal's magic could not keep us alive once we all disconnected.

I appreciate everything you're doing right now, keep rocking it Octo! Thank you for your consideration.

Confirming , we were about to get to the last boss of FMH , and while clearing mobs DC hit us and took us all out at somewhere around 8 PM SVT , once we got back we were all dead there was nothing we could do , therefore we would really appreciate if you can revive us.

We like being here and we want to continue playing but not all of us have time to keep lvling back up every single time something goes out of our control

Thank you

Restriction on appeal for characters below level 20 was introduced about month ago or little more. Same goes for video recording requirement, as there were bunch of players seeking revivals for deaths unrelated to DDoS (but occured in 5-20 mins before mass DC), such as https://octowow.st/death-appeals/201 here or https://octowow.st/death-appeals/409 here. Bunch of PvP related death was revived even w/o appeal. Players try every possible way to justify their deaths. By the way, do you have record of those run from FMH?

As someone who mines over 200 ore nodes and gathers a similar amount of herbs or leather between levels 5 and 10, spending 3–4 hours, or essentially one or two play sessions, I can understand some kind of frustration after unappealable death, but not much.

Overall, threshold could be lowered to level 10, but provided video recording is MANDATORY. Specifically video must clearly show game freezing, allowing octo team to verify with combo video + own logs whether a server malfunction actually occurred. Not like half of guys start recording AFTER death and upload it. Form itself should not be registrable at all without link to video or an uploaded video.

I understand what you're saying , some people might be trying to abuse the system so they can free revival , however expecting every single player to record their gameplay just because "something might " happen so they can insure themselves is not realistic , and personally couldn't care less about that stuff , I play here only to kill some time I don't wanna deal with recording or anything like that. If I won't get revived in this case its not the end of the world either.

Also , I'm pretty sure data exists which shows the exact time when ddoss happened and when a player died for comparing , honestly I don't think its hard to deduce if we're lying or not.

Btw I've died couple of times before but those were all in my control , not this time though. Still , I can understand not seeing the foundation to trust

So, kill some time, which mean just spend it and you can lvling again, or don't have time and want save progress lol
If want save progress, yeah, do something for it, like record. twow had no-revive rule. Here you can be revived if it's server issue, but yeah, you need those revive, so you do something for it like... recording.

Kestrel, can I summon you? There is still hidden appeal. Not even low lvl pvpers, but I can't even find my own :D
Like https://octowow.st/death-appeals/341 and next one is https://octowow.st/death-appeals/336. As I understand old, mostly approved, hide/deleted after some time and duplicate linked to single case based on time? Well, not really matter.

I died August 28 at mass ddos wave, right in days after changing rules about appeal. And those toon was revived even w/o recording, (by the way if you revive, /gm from other toon and wait for gm online, so he can tp you to save place lol, if tp from account setting on site didn't work, like for me and for many others, error 500) but since it was one of "mains" I started record every fart with 10 mins buffer on them in case of server issue. But only server issue. If it will be my isp or even electricity - death is death. At other toons, which just for fun, I don't record at all, they are for fun and stupid thing.

So yeah, I’m a huge fan of recording, after twow "death is death" principle, specifically because it takes five minutes to set up and just three clicks to start. You might never even need those footage, but recording at 1080p with a 10-minute buffer uses 390 mb of RAM rn (but my toon is staying, so in real gameplay it will be 500-600 mb). Saving from buffer with those settings results in 1.2 GB file. Even Core 2 Duo can handle that. But if that’s still an issue, you can record at 720p and set buffer to two-three minutes.
And when you run together in group only one can recording (like I do when playing with friend).

Dude, I really appreciate you appealing for the whole party; I was about to open a seperate thread to do just that, but now I simply try to give an additional voice to your post. I keep our fingers crossed for all of us and everybody who died to the DDoS-crash ♥

- Sjorkal

P.S.: Thanks for your kind words. I really liked the whole communication and atmosphere in our run!

I am pleased to announce that our party has been given a second chance. Our party shall gather and venture forth to hopefully finish our adventure in Frostmane once we are all back online, and hopefully haven't outleveled each other. :D Thank you Octo devs for showing great appreciation and understanding towards the community; it has greatly increased my respect towards this server and the amazing people behind it.

Hey there,

here I am hoping to get following appeal approved as well:

This evening (ST ~22:30) my beloved paladin Bonkwena died to fighting Defias Knuckledusters whilst being bamboozled by a big lag spike. I really do not like to have video capturing software running on my PC, so I hope, you accept my screenshot as proof.
And yes, Bonkwena has only been Level 19.

I would be immensly thankful, as I have lost two of the 3 prior Bonkwenas to lag/disconnect as well.

Thanks for all the work you put into the servers and into your consideration of my issue.

♥

EDIT: As I seem not to be able to open the attached picture and just view it in post: zoom in to see chat on the left confirming the lag issue about the time of Bonkwenas death (right chatbox).
