The GM in the screenshots never said that, in this specific case, they wouldn't do anything because it wasn't considered ninja looting. The GM's response implies that you can need on anything at any time unless you explicitly agree beforehand not to need on certain items and the other players take a screenshot of that agreement. All of this applies regardless of whether the item is an upgrade for you or not.

I never once promoted needing on everything. That's the point, I'm explaining what the problem with this reasoning is, based on the GM's response. You can permanently need on anything and everything you want without the item needing to be an upgrade for you, potentially ruining dungeon runs for everyone involved, because GMs accept it as part of the experience.

For anyone else wondering: I always try to be mindful of others when rolling, if it's more of an upgrade for you than it is for me, I will roll greed. If it's definitely for my current spec AND role, I will roll need.

This is exactly the problem is it not? This means that every time you want to play a dungeon, you need to explicitly tell everyone that PROT PALADINS queing as DPS should not NEED on a mail int+spell power over the holy pala

Int and SP are primary stats for Prot paladins.

This is a good example of why GMs don't deal with these disputes though, they'd have to spend all their time explaining to people like Burnett that Mail Pants with Int & SP are indeed good for any Paladin spec.
