First, we would like to thank you for even considering joining our efforts to build this community. We are a team of passionate unpaid volunteers and are thrilled you are crazy enough to want to join us!
If you are here, you probably are already aware of our zero trust policy in concept, but may have some questions about what the implementation looks like. In practice, we try to keep all communications over various anonymous text chats. When we do need to have voice calls or meetings we insist that team members use some type of approved voice altering software. It sounds goofy, sometimes in a fun way, but we feel it important that we preserve anonymity for all even amongst people who may interact with each other regularly in game or over discord. All assets (code, art, videos, other media) are uploaded through a tor connection to ensure IP's are not leaked. Our technical team will help you get that set up. Having a system where no two team members could even recognize each other outside of the work we do together is important for the safety of everyone involved and the security of the server.
About the team we currently have, there is much unknown about us even to ourselves because of the above precautions! What we can tell you is that most of us have a technical background, with a few artists of various mediums amongst the group. We currently lack a strong community building and organizational skill set, but are also always looking for more technical and artistic people to assist in the large amount of work that we have in front of us!
As for time commitment, we are thankful for any time that our team members can give to the project. At a minimum, we request that each member put in 8 hours of work a week (Knowledge Keepers excluded from this of course) on whatever it is that they do for our community, but we are open to discussions if that is an issue or does not make sense for every individual. Currently our team is putting in close to 60 hour weeks, but that is not expected or required, we are just a passionate bunch with too much free time at the moment.
The primary roles that we are recruiting for are as follows:
This community project is currently funded by a small number of very generous patrons on the OctoWow Team. Right now all funding is being directed to essential infrastructure (anonymous server hosting primarily), and it will be that way for the foreseeable future. We do plan on opening a paired down version of the Turtle Wow shop (with some of the more gaudy cosmetics removed) to raise funds to support server fees indefinitely. Due to the anonymous nature of the server, we are planning on only taking donations through cryptocurrencies at first, we will be exploring alternative payment method's viability in the future though.
All donations for the project are put in a set of anonymized crypto wallets that all financial members of the team have viewing access to, ensuring internal fiscal transparency. In the event that these wallets surpass what is needed for six months of server and maintenance fees, the team has agreed to start talks about what to spend the excess funds on together. The sentiment right now is that our first priority should we break even would be to issue monthly cryptocurrency stipends for Game Masters as they are such a core part of the community and put in so many hours monitoring the world in an active way. If that time comes the entire team will be part of the discussion in one way or another.
What we can offer is Octotokens! As you may guess, this is the Turtle Token equivalent to be used for in game purchases. All team members will receive an unlimited number of tokens once they reach one month of consistent volunteer work on the team. We do hope to be providing more than just in game currency at some point. Unfortunately, we have no insights into the finances of Turtle Wow, and thus have no way to predict what the finances of our project will look like.
There have been some talks about in game titles/pets/mounts unique to the OctoWow Team, but there are some concerns about revealing in game who may be part of the team. For now that discussion has been shelved as we focus on more pressing matters, but is something to be aware of.
If you've made it this far and are still interested we would love to hear from you! Please send a brief email about what you hope to contribute to the project to OctoWow@proton.me and we will get back with you as soon as we are able to.
